Rhythmic Notation


Each of the components of the dances is shown in rhythmic notation. The numbers on the top line indicate the count for the movement notated on the second line. The third line indicates the direction of the movement:



Single or Simple
   a step and a touch (most often)
   Single or Simples steps can move any direction, to either side, on either foot, forward or backward

Double Step
   three steps and a touch, moving forward or backward

Galliard
   a 6 count step comprised of 4 prances, and a cadence. Prance onto the left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot, go in the air, land in a right cadence. Prance onto the right foot, left foot, right foot, left foot, go in the air, land in a left cadence.

Reprise
   a double to the side: step open side, cross behind, step open side, touch together.
